Practical Shoot
Obscura developed a permanent projection system that transforms The Mart in Chicago into a large-scale illuminated canvas, showcasing visual artistry five nights a week, ten months a year, for the next 30 years. Content from this practical FX shoot was featured alongside works by four curated international artists as part of the inaugural show.
Using templates of The Mart’s façade as a creative guide, Obscura’s media team produced abstract visuals for the installation through practical visual effects techniques. As the Practical FX Director, I oversaw all aspects of cinematography, rigging, and lighting during the three-day shoot, ensuring each element aligned with the building’s architectural features and the artistic vision of the project.
